Betsy practices exclusively in the areas of estate planning, and estate tax and administration, and heads the firm’s Estate Tax practice. She has extensive experience in both Federal and Rhode Island Estate Taxes, and in preparing complex estate plans that incorporate estate tax minimization strategies.
Before joining Sullivan Estate Law, Betsy was an associate attorney with the law firm of Rice, Dolan & Kershaw in Providence, where she specialized in civil litigation and insurance coverage issues. She was also previously associated with the litigation firm of Martin, Magnuson, McCarthy & Kenney in Boston, and served as a Law Clerk to Justice Thomas F. Kelleher of the Supreme Court of Rhode Island.
Betsy is an avid runner and tennis player, and has volunteered for many years with the Special Olympics of Rhode Island tennis program. She shares her love of reading with her friends in a book club they started over 25 years ago. Betsy has a keen interest in the value of education and enjoys giving back to the community. While raising three children and practicing law, she went back to Boston College in the evenings and obtained her Masters Degree in Higher Education Administration. She uses her education background as a weekly classroom volunteer in the Providence Public Schools.
Betsy grew up in southern New Jersey with four brothers. Sports ruled in her home, so she became an avid fan of the Phillies and Eagles. She is part of a large family with 40 first cousins who gather on a lake in Maine each summer to carry on a 40+ year tradition. She has grown to love Rhode Island but still enjoys visiting her extended family in New Jersey.
