Jim is a second-generation lawyer. He formed a partnership with his father, Leo J. Sullivan, in 1992. Prior to that he gained valuable experience as an associate at a large law firm in Providence and as a law clerk for the Rhode Island Supreme Court law clerk pool.
Jim's law practice is focused in the areas of estate planning and administration. Those practice areas complement his related practice areas of elder law, real estate, and business law.
Jim is a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA). This certification, issued by the National Elder Law Foundation, requires that the attorney pass an examination and demonstrate specialized knowledge in the area of elder law. Jim was the first attorney in Rhode Island to become a CELA and is currently one of only 5 attorneys in Rhode Island with this certification.
Jim grew up in North Kingstown and later moved to Narragansett with his wife, Betsy, and their three children. He was involved in his children’s youth sports as they went through the Narragansett school system. He has been a member of the Narragansett Lions for over 20 years.
For fun, Jim enjoys running with members of the Narragansett Running Association. He has completed the Boston, New York, and Philadelphia marathons multiple times (even though he vowed never to do that again at the conclusion of each race). He also enjoys skiing and hiking with his family in the White Mountains.
